Circle Series Solo Show Concept

Laura Kandle

In our modern era where focus is constantly pulled towards the self, Laura Kandle’s Circle series asks the audience to pause and think big. Each work takes an element of our natural cosmos, small and large, and grounds it in a meditative center that draws the viewer into a state of mindful contemplation. The series leans into textured negative spaces and their interplay with color and shape to invoke awe.

I am presenting the Circle series to you as a concept for a solo show at your gallery, or as part of a suitable joint exhibition. Works from this series have been collected by known and new collectors, and have been featured at numerous galleries across New York, and series works are currently on view at Atlantic Gallery in the Chelsea Art District as part of Imagined Worlds: A Visual Narrative Exhibition. I invite you to view the series in-person from July 14th-August 1st and would be pleased to guide you though my works at the gallery. The series will also be available for viewing after this date at my studio in Astoria or can be transported to your gallery for an in-gallery viewing and discussion.

The series requires minimal gallery modifications, but is best suited to a quiet space where viewers can get comfortably lost in the works, mirroring the transformative experiences that audiences have at sacred spaces like The Rothko Chapel. The series as an exhibition can also be paired with inspired events such as musical experiences, philosophical discussions, and meditations.

Below you will find further examples of the series works, as well as examples of the spaced in which they have been exhibited. Thank you and I look forward to discussing how to bring this series to your gallery.

Laura Kandle is a visual artist who works in a range of mediums including painting, drawing, and sculpture. Her work harnesses the tension between saturated color and manipulated negative space to convey critical perspectives on animal rights, science, politics, and mytho-history. Using acrylics and gel mediums, oil pastels, foam clay, and found objects, Kandle constructs artworks that draw the viewer into reflective discomfort and critical contemplation. Each work is created with a preference of simplicity over complexity and accessibility over incomprehensibility. Her work serves as an approachable entry point to contemplate the biggest challenges facing our cultural evolution, (in)significance as a species, and moral survival.

Her works have been displayed locally and internationally including at Atlantic Gallery in Manhattan's Chelsea gallery district, The Gallery at The Factory in Long Island City, in Cairo, Egypt, and at Astoria Arts Center.

Laura Kandle is based in New York City.
